Sanjay Dutt’s biopic directed by Rajkumar Hirani is taking the box office by a massive storm. It’s not even surprising given it stars Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, etc.
Although, critics have bashed the film on the grounds of it being a propaganda film that absolves Sanjay Dutt of his crimes. It seems to whitewash his image by strategically looking over a large chunk of his life and only showing the good part to create a positive cinematic impact. It makes a great watch for a cinema fan but as a biopic, it’s really lazy writing.
However, the word of mouth is insane with the film. People are loving Ranbir Kapoor’s career best acting and Vicky Kaushal’s supporting role of Kamli. Audience loves the movie and box office collection shows it.
It grossed Rs 34.75 crore on Friday, Rs 38.60 crore on Saturday, and created a record on Sunday.
India never disappoints when it’s a Rajkumar Hirani’s films, whether it’s PK or 3 Idiots, he always breaks record but this time he has broken his own record by becoming the movie with highest single collection of all time. The record was held previously by Baahubali 2.
Sanju collected Rs 46.71 crore on Sunday (3rd day) and surpassed the record of Rs 46.50 set by Baahubali back in April.
It’s an unimaginable feat for a biopic. And that’s not just it, Sanju also broke the record to become the movie to collected the highest money on a Monday.
Success of Sanju proves that you don’t to release movies on Holidays to create box office records. If you have content and talent; that is if you look at qualitative content rather than sensationalism like Race 3, audience will come and appreciate you.
It’s just the beginning. Trade Analysts believe that Sanju will cross 300 crores at the box office.
