Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi and Shahid Kapoor’s half brother Ishaan are finally making their Bollywood debut in an upcoming movie written and directed by Shashank Khaitan.
Karan Johar’s Dhadak is a remake of critically acclaimed national award winning film ‘Sairat’. Set in Rajasthan, Dhadak is a “journey of young, pure, unconditional and a fierce first love that fights fate.”
Madhukar and Parthavi, two young innocent people, fall in love with each other without realizing the difference in their caste. Their families reject their love, torn between family and society, they elope to Kolkata to keep their love safe.
Watch the trailer here:
Ishaan Khatter outshines Janhvi Kapoor by a huge margin. While his acting seems organic and fun, Janhvi Kapoor fails to deliver one liners that were supposed to be jokes. The whole reason everyone loved Marathi film Sairat was because of its rawness and simplicity. The actors looked like us, normal common people and it didn’t feel like they were acting in a film. The story flow was amazing.
Whereas in Dhadak, the rawness is lost to glamour. Madhukar is shown riding an expensive bike, but he’s supposed to be economically backwards, which is what creates the difference between him and Parthavi’s family. It brings down the flair, which connected the audience to Sairat in the first place.
Dhadak trailer also features a Hindi version of Sairat’s superhit song ‘Zingaat’ and it’s the only good thing about the trailer. It looks good and I’m looking forward to it.
What’s more exciting you ask? music is composed by legendary duo of Ajay-Atul. However, the trailer, as a whole, didn’t excite me at all. It looks like just another romeo and juliet based Bollywood film like Ishaqzaade and others.
My fingers are crossed hoping they don’t ruin Sairat AND Zingaat for us. Please Bollywood, handle with care. The movie is scheduled to release on 20th July, 2018.
