Sunil Chhetri’s scored two goals against Kenya in the final match. It not only helped Indian team win the intercontinental cup at home, but it also helped Indian skipper equal Barcelona’s Lionel Messi in the list of highest active goal scorers in international football.
Sunil Chhetri walked in to the match with 62 goals, right behind Messi. He scored his first one in under 8 minutes which gave India the much needed lead to create pressure on Kenya’s team. Though, he scored another one in the 29th minute which pretty much sealed the match, thanks to Indian team’s a+ defense.
There’s only one player ahead of Chhetri now and he’s none other than football legend Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo with 81 goals.
But there’s one thing to note that FIFA World Cup is starting next week which means Argentina is gonna play a lot of matches, which will give Messi the opportunity to create a long lead over Chhetri. But it’s still a great feat for our skipper.
He has made India proud. Go Chhetri!
